Frequently asked questions.

Will my yard be damaged during the installation process?

No, installing concrete landscape edging will not disturb your existing yard. We excavate a narrow 8-10 inch wide trench to install the curbing, leaving the surrounding grass untouched. Concrete is transported using a powered wheelbarrow with large turf tires designed to prevent damage to your lawn.

Do you have issues with cracking?

Like all concrete, landscape curbing is susceptible to cracking. Any company claiming otherwise is not being truthful. We take precautions by using proper mixing ratios and finishing techniques to minimize cracking.

Small "spider cracks" may develop but should not be mistaken for structural separation. Factors such as materials, design, and temperature influence cracking. Narrow turns, steep inclines, or declines can make compression more challenging. Cracks wider than 1/4 inch on level ground are considered installation errors and are covered under our warranty within one year of installation. However, cracks in control joints or minor surface cracks are not covered.

Is concrete landscape curbing easy to mow and trim around?

Yes! Properly installed concrete landscape edging simplifies lawn maintenance. Mowers should hover over the front edge of the curb without driving onto it, often eliminating the need for trimming altogether.

What is the reinforcement and PSI strength of the concrete?

Concrete landscape curbing is designed specifically for landscaping and differs from parking lot or street curbing. The PSI strength varies depending on sand type and mixing ratios, typically around 2000 PSI. While rebar is not an option, a steel cable can be added to enhance tensile strength and reduce separation, please let us know at the time of quoting if you would like steel cable added as it is not industry standard.

Can concrete landscape curbing be installed if I already have edging?

Yes! Whether you have grass, sprinklers, or existing edging, we can install new curbing. However, the best results occur when curbing is installed before sprinklers. If replacing old edging, we recommend placing the new curb outside the existing edge for a stronger base. Sprinkler heads should be positioned outside of the curb to prevent rust stains from water with high iron content.

Can you help with layout design?

Absolutely! We are happy to assist in designing the perfect layout for your landscape curbing, ensuring smooth, visually appealing lines.

What should I do before installation?

  • Mark all sprinklers with flags or spray paint to prevent damage.

  • Ensure driveway/street access is clear for our equipment.

  • Secure pets during installation and for 24 hours after to prevent damage to the fresh concrete.

Refer to our Curb Care & Homeowner Responsibilities page for full details.

What should I do after installation?

  • Turn off sprinklers for 24 hours to allow proper curing.

  • Keep pets, children, and garden equipment away from the curb for at least 24 hours, and avoid mowing near it for one week.

  • See our Curb Care & Homeowner Responsibilities page for more details.

What should I do about my property’s sprinklers?

For new construction, we recommend installing sprinklers after curbing to allow greater design flexibility. For existing lawns, we usually install curbing outside sprinkler heads. If not feasible, adjusting or relocating sprinklers is the homeowner's responsibility.

Do you seal the curbing? Will I need to reseal it?

Stamped curbing receives a high-gloss acrylic sealer upon installation to enhance color depth and pattern visibility. Sealers naturally wear down due to UV exposure and should be reapplied every couple of years to maintain appearance. Water-based sealers are not recommended.

EdgeWorks may offer resealing services depending on location or can guide you in applying it yourself.

Do you address water drainage issues?

Concrete landscape edging can create a "water dam" around your home. We proactively address drainage concerns by incorporating small drainage gaps where needed. We recommend extending downspouts beyond the curb to prevent water buildup.

What does custom landscape edging cost?

Pricing depends on factors such as linear footage, curb size, color, stamping, design, and site conditions. Please complete our estimate form for an accurate quote tailored to your project.

Will you remove old edging and move landscape rock?

We will remove old edging for a fee but do not move rock. However, we can recommend landscapers in your area who specialize in this service.

What if my curb gets damaged?

We offer repair services, but costs may vary based on the cause of damage. We document every finished project with video before leaving the site.
