The Best Time to Install Concrete Curbing in Montana

Planning a landscaping project in Bozeman means working around a short growing season. If concrete curbing is on your list, timing matters, both for the concrete and for getting on the schedule. Here's how to plan your curbing project in Montana.

Our Installation Season

In the Bozeman area, we install concrete curbing from about April through October, weather permitting. Concrete needs above-freezing temperatures to cure properly, so we schedule around overnight lows and avoid days with freezing temperatures in the forecast.

Spring (April to June)

Spring is the busiest time of year. Homeowners want their beds edged before planting, and new construction projects ramp up. If you want curbing in the spring, request your quote in late winter or early spring to get on the schedule.

  • Great time to edge beds before you plant and mulch

  • Ideal for new builds before sod and sprinklers go in

  • Book early, since spring fills up fast

Summer (July to August)

Summer is a reliable window with warm, dry weather. It's a good time for larger projects and for adding curbing after spring planting has settled in.

Fall (September to October)

Fall is an underrated time to install curbing. Temperatures are mild, the schedule usually opens up, and your new borders are ready to go the moment spring arrives. We watch the forecast closely late in the season to make sure the concrete has time to cure before a hard freeze.

Plan Around Sprinklers and Sod

If you're building a new home or redoing your landscape, install curbing before sprinklers and sod when you can. It gives us more design flexibility and keeps sprinkler heads where they belong, outside the curb, so iron-rich water doesn't leave rust stains. See our new construction curbing page for more.

How to Prepare for Installation Day

  • Mark sprinkler heads, landscape lighting, pet fence wires, and utility lines near the work area.

  • Mow your lawn a day or two before.

  • Clean up after pets in the work area.

  • Make sure we have about 50 feet of street frontage for our truck. Your driveway may be blocked for 4 to 6 hours, so move any vehicles you'll need.

Full details are on our installation process page.

After Installation

  • Keep sprinklers off for 24 hours.

  • Keep pets, kids, and tools away from the curb for at least 48 hours.

  • Avoid mowing right next to the curb for one week.
